Cast chosen for Muskegon Civic Theatre’s ‘Mamma Mia!’

MUSKEGON — Muskegon Civic Theatre has casted the closing production of its 2019-2020 season, the jukebox musical “Mamma Mia!”

Appearing in the show that will run April 30 through May 3 at the downtown Frauenthal Theater will be Sophie Recknagel as Sophie Sheridan, Stacy Dawe as Donna Sheridan, Kevin Prince as Sam Carmichael, David Riegler as Bill Austin, Jason Bertoia as Harry Bright, Kyle Glotz as Sky, Jamie McCool as Tanya, Becky Anderson as Rosie, Nia Merryweather as Lisa, Tristan Evanoff as Ali, Mark Martin as Pepper, and Dustin Day as Eddie.

Members of the ensemble include Jake Trygstad, Julia Uganski, Jacob Westerhof, Kendyl White, Jakari Carson, Spencer Escareno-Kniat, Sandra Yacoub, Mike Hassett, Megan Fretty and McKenzie Doriot.

“Mamma Mia!” is based on the songs of the famous Swedish pop group ABBA, composed by former band members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.

The musical’s title is taken from the group’s 1975 chart-topper ” Mamma Mia.” Other ABBA hits in the show included ” Super Trouper,” ” Lay All Your Love on Me,” ” Dancing Queen,” ” Knowing Me, Knowing You,” ” Take a Chance on Me,” ” Thank You for the Music,” ” Money, Money, Money,” ” The Winner Takes It All,” ” Voulez-Vous” and ” SOS.”

Set on a Greek island, the story of “Mamma Mia!” is about Sophie Sheridan, a young woman searching for her birth father. On the eve of her wedding, three men from her mother’s past return to the island they once visited 20 years before. Any one of them could be Sophie’s father.

MCT’s production is being directed by Penelope Notter. Phil DeYoung is music director, and choreographer is Samantha Portice.
