MUSKEGON — Auditions have been scheduled for Muskegon Civic Theatre’s production of the holiday musical “A Christmas Carol.”
Tryouts for the show that will run Nov. 15 through Dec. 1 at the Beardsley Theater will be 7 p.m. Sept. 23 and 24. They will be held on the third floor of the Hilt Building portion of the downtown Frauenthal Center, 427 W. Western.
If necessary, callbacks will be 7 p.m. Sept. 25.
Director Jason Bertoia will have performers read from the script. Music director Janie Glerum is asking those auditioning to prepare 16 bars of a Broadway-style song, and provide sheet music for an accompanist; No one will be allowed to sing acapella or accompany themselves. Choreographer Samantha Portice has requested that everyone wear comfortable clothing, and either dance shoes or regular shoes that tie; All those auditioning will be required to participate in the dance/movement portion of the auditions.
“A Christmas Carol” is a musical adaptation of the classic yuletide ghost story by Charles Dickens. The show’s book and lyrics are by Sheldon Harnick, and the music is by Michel Legrand.
“A Christmas Carol” has principal roles for two men and four women. Featured roles for performers who will double in the ensemble are available for four women, three girls, five men, and three boys.
Rehearsals will begin Sept. 30, and be held from 7-10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
In addition to regularly scheduled performances, a special matinee might be performed Nov. 20. Evening performances begin at 7:30, and matinees are at 3 p.m.
