Muskegon Civic Theatre casts ‘The 39 Steps’

MUSKEGON — Four actors take on 150 characters.
That’s what’s in store for audiences Sept. 13-28 when Muskegon Civic Theatre stages playwright Patrick Barlow’s 2005 parody of works by iconic movie director Alfred Hitchcock, “The 39 Steps.”
Director Kirk Wahamaki’s cast includes Keegan Colcleasure as the protagonist, Richard Hannay; Emily Kindervater as Annabella, Margaret and Patricia; and, as the Clowns, Savannah Gomez and Ray Brazaski playing everyone else.
The production will be presented in the downtown Beardsley Theater.
Barlow adapted “The 39 Steps” from the John Buchan’s 1915 novel and Hitchcock’s 1935 spy adventure film. An original concept of the play was by Simon Cordle and Nobby Dimon.
The show demands quick changes, with performers sometimes playing multiple characters at the same time.
Though primarily patterned after the original “39 Steps,” the show also alludes to such famous Hitchcock films as “Strangers on a Train,” “Rear Window,” “Psycho,” “Vertigo“ and “North by Northwest.”
