Sylvia logo (1)Central Park Players (CPP) celebrates its 60th season with their fourth show for the 2018-2019 season with A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia, May 10-18 at the Grand Haven Community Center.

The plot of the show involves married couple Greg (played by Joe Carmolli) and Kate (Jennifer Christman) who have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities.

Greg brings home a dog he found in the park bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia (played by Katie McCool) becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. His new canine companion offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection…and Sylvia simply thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. A series of hilarious and touching complications bring the story of Greg, Kate and Sylvia to its touching conclusion.

Joining cast members Carmolli, Christman and McCool is Kristopher Arnold doing triple-duty playing the characters Tom, Phyllis and Leslie. Directed by Peter Drost with Gretchen Fields as the assistant director and Barb DeVries as Producer.

Show dates are May 10, 11, 17, 18 at 7:30 pm and May 12 at 2pm. All shows will be held in the Grand Haven Community Center. Tickets are $15 general admission, and $10 for students and seniors 65+.
