Another round of “Buzzed Bard,” the Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company’s series of William Shakespeare scenes staged in the drinking atmosphere to which the playwright himself was no stranger, will be served at 6 p.m. March 31.
Tickets to the event at the 18th Amendment Spirits Company, 350 W. Western in downtown Muskegon, are $5. They may be purchased online at https:// http://www.eventbrite.com/e/buzzed-bard-tickets-54608051151, or at the door.
“‘Buzzed Bard’ is probably not the first thing that people think of when they imagine a Shakespeare performance,” said Katherine Mayberry, Pigeon Creek’s executive director. “We love bringing Shakespeare into a casual atmosphere, where the audience can take a light-hearted look at Shakespeare’s work.”
A typical Buzzed Bard performance includes scenes from multiple Shakespearean plays, a Shakespeare drinking game for the audience to participate in, Shakespeare-themed improvisation performance by the actors, and even audience-interactive games, such as a Shakespearean insult contest.
The March 31 program will feature scenes from Shakespeare’s plays “Richard III,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Henry VIII,” “Antony and Cleopatra” and “Cymbeline.”
West Michigan-based Pigeon Creek got the idea for “Buzzed Bard” from the Drunk Shakespeare Society in New York. Partnering with the 18th Amendment, Pigeon Creek performed “Buzzed Bard” there several times last year.
Tickets for “Buzzed Bard” are $5, and can be purchased ahead of time at https:// http://www.eventbrite.com/e/buzzed-bard-tickets-54608051151, or at the door March 31. Audience members can order food and drinks from 18th Amendment’s regular menu.
