MCT sets auditions for ‘Hands on a Hardbody’

Muskegon Civic Theatre will hold auditions for the musical comedy “Hands on a Hardbody” at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 26 and 27.

Tryouts will be in Johnson Hall on the third floor of the Hilt Building, 427 W. Western, inside the downtown Frauenthal Center complex.

Performers should arrive 15 minutes early, to get a photograph taken and fill out the audition form.

If necessary, callbacks will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The show is being directed by Andrew Zahrt, with music direction by Kevin Foley.

Those auditioning will read from the script and sing a prepared song of their choosing. People should bring sheet music for the accompanist, and wear comfortable clothing for the dance portion of the audition, including shoes that tie.

Rehearsals for “Hands on a Hardbody” begin Oct. 3, and will be 7-10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

With a book by Doug Wright, lyrics by Amanda Green and music by Green and Trey Anastasio, “Hands on a Hardbody” is about a contest in which people try to win a new Nissan hardbody truck. The winner is whoever keeps at least one hand on the truck the longest.

A real truck is onstage throughout the show.

The show will run Nov. 16 through Dec. 4 in the Beardsley Theater. Performances will be 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays.

For further information, call the MCT office, (231) 722-3852, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
