GRAND HAVEN — “The Diary of Anne Frank” took home the most trophies during the annual Bess-Z Awards recently presented by the Central Park Players community theatre company.
The show that marked the directing debut of veteran West Michigan actress/singer Diane Van Wesep won five of the 11 categories.
In addition to Van Wesep for Best Show, “Anne Frank” winners for CPP’s 2015-2016 season included Steve Dzwonkowski (Otto Frank) as Best Actor in a Leading Role, Emily Mann (title role) as Best Actress in a Leading Role, Mike Vogas (Hermann Van Daan) as Best Actor in a Major Supporting Role, and set designers Van Wesep and Ed DeJong for Best Artistic Contribution.
Other Bess-Z Awards went to Mandy Keeler of “5 Women Wearing the Same Dress” Best Actress in a Major Supporting Role, Jarod Peterson as Best Actor in a Minor Supporting Role for “Glitz, the Little Miss Christmas Pageant Musical,” Rachel Bethke of “5 Women Wearing the Same Dress” as Best Actress in a Minor Supporting Role, Jessica Draper of “Grease” for Best Cameo Appearance, and Lisa Hilliard of “Grease” for Best Costumes.
The 2015-2016 awards had 48 nominees.
The Bess-Z Awards are given at the end of each CPP season.
They are named in honor of the late Bess Zarita, a longtime CPP staple.
CPP has given out the Bess-Z Awards since the 1994-1995 season.
