The West Michigan based Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company will partner with the Grand Rapids Public Library to present Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors on July 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the bandshell at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids. This is a free event. No reservations are required. Event organizers suggest that audience members bring blankets, water, and bug spray for enjoying this outdoor performance. The Shakespeare in the Park event began last year as a part of the Grand Rapids Public Library’s GR Reads program, and Pigeon Creek hopes to make it an annual event.
The Comedy of Errors follows the adventures of two pairs of identical twins who are separated at birth. When the two sets of twins end up in the same city, mistaken identities and hilarious comedy ensue. Pigeon Creek’s production went on an out-of-state tour earlier this year, visiting King University in Bristol, Tennessee in February, where the cast performed for King students and the Bristol community, and conducted acting workshops for theatre students. The cast features actors Chaz Albright, Kathleen Bode, Kimberlee Griggs, Brooke Heinz, Kat Hermes, Sean Kelley, Scott Lange, Katherine Mayberry, Cody Robison, Sarah Stark, Scott Wright, and Stephen Douglas Wright.
Pigeon Creek’s summer season will continue in August with performances of Henry IV and The Tempest. The company recently received two Wilde Award nominations — the awards for professional theatre throughout the state of Michigan — for its production of The Tempest.
